Cat & Kitten Adoption Program
As of August 1, 2026 we have our own adoption program for cats and kittens! Due to the Barry County Animal Shelter's very limited space for cats and kittens (not affiliated), we're expanding the opportunities for cats and kittens recovered in Barry County to be adopted in Barry County! Either use the dropdown menu up top or click here to view our currently available kittens ready for adoption! Want to volunteer to foster? Reach out via our Contact Us Form and our program lead will get back to you with what's needed!

But wait, what about dogs you ask? We need more dog foster volunteers before we can begin to offer dog adoptions. We would absolutely love to also serve the 'doggo's of Barry County but to do that we need more community involvement! If you're interested in potentially fostering one or more dog(s) with us, please fill out a contact us form and let us know! Once we have enough volunteers, we'll expand our program to meet our community's canine needs!

Adoption Program Information
Adoption Fees
We believe every cat deserves a loving forever home.
• Kittens (Under 1 Year): $150
• Adult Cats (1–5 Years): $100
• Senior Cats (5+ Years): $65

Every adoption includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchip, deworming,
a basic health examination, and loving foster care before adoption. Your adoption fee helps offset
only a portion of the medical and daily care costs incurred while each cat is in our program.

Adoption Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, complete an adoption application, present a valid
government-issued photo ID, keep adopted cats indoors only, agree not to declaw, ensure all
household members support the adoption, provide landlord approval if renting, and be prepared to
provide routine and emergency veterinary care.

Adoption Process

-
BCHS reviews your application.

Our Commitment
Every BCHS cat is cared for in a loving foster home where their personality and needs are learned
before adoption, helping us make the best possible match.

Return Policy
If you are no longer able to care for your adopted cat, the cat must be returned to Barry County
Humane Society. Cats may not be rehomed, surrendered to another rescue or shelter, abandoned,
or given away. Applicable surrender fees may apply.

A Lifetime Commitment
Cats often live 15–20 years or longer. Before adopting, please consider the lifelong commitment of
providing love, veterinary care, companionship, and a safe indoor home.
